a)

Let a be the number of red apples in the basket. We know that 9/10 of the apples are red and that we have a total of 45 apples, then we have the equation:

a=(9)/(10)(45)

b)

Let's solve the equation:

\begin{gathered} a=(9)/(10)(45) \\ a=40.5 \end{gathered}

Hence we have that a=40.5

c)

The solution tells us that apporximately 40 or 41 apples are red.
