x = 7 + 2y
x - y = 22

7 + 2y - y = 22
y = 15

x = 7 + 2(15)
x = 7 + 30
x = 37

Answer:

The value of the larger number is 37 .

Explanation:

Let us assume that the first number be u.

Let us assume that the second number be v.

As given

One number is 7 more than twice another.

Than the equation becomes

u = 7 + 2v

As given

If their difference is 22 .

Than the equation becomes

u - v = 22

Than two equations are

u = 7 + 2v and u - v = 22

Put u = 7 + 2v in equation u - v = 22 .

7 + 2v - v = 22

7 + v = 22

v = 22 - 7

v = 15

Put the value of v in the equation u = 7 + 2v .

u = 7 + 2 × 15

u = 7 + 30

u = 37

Therefore the value of the larger number is 37 .
