Best Answer: The colonists were united in the vision of being free from England. People from all walks of life joined together to form the Continental Army. Militias were formed all over the Thirteen Colonies. Thomas Paine wrote 'Common Sense.' Thomas Jefferson wrote the 'Declaration of Independence.' The colonists boycotted English goods. So you see, it was a culmination of things the colonists did to contribute to the success of the war.
