The equation of a line in the slope intercept form is expressed as

y = mx + c

where

m represents slope

c represents y intercept

The formula for determining slope is expresed as

slope, m = (y2 - y1)/(x2 - x1)

From the points given,

x1 = 6, y1 = 8

x2 = - 2, y2 = 4

Slope = (4 - 8)/(- 2 - 6) = - 4/- 8

Slope, m = 1/2

We would find the y intercept, c by substituting m = 1/2, x = 6 and y = 8 into the slope inter cept equation. It becomes

8 = 1/2 * 6 + c

8 = 3 + c

c = 8 - 3

c = 5

Thus, the equation of the line is

y = x/2 + 5
