It was used as a penile colony for people with "non-dangerous" convictions, a buffer colony from the Spanish in Florida and the French in Louisiana. It also served as a plantation colony that grew rice as its main crop which was mostly sold to the Caribbean islands who used almost all of there land to frow sugar cane.
