Supported by holy scripture and there was no concrete evidence for the heliocentric theory.

Bellarmine stated that the many of the scriptures speak of the Earth being the center of the universe and if that is not true it put the whole scripture into question. He further explains the geocentric theory could be proven by looking at the stars and moon as they move while the Earth stands still. Bellarmine was unwilling to challenge the holy scripture for a hypothesis.
