Atoms are neutral and contain the same number of protons as electrons. And ion is an electrically charged that is produced by either removing electrons from a neutral atoms to give a positive ion or adding electrons to a neutral atom to give a negative ion.

(So pretty much what I'm trying to say is)
- an ion is an atom however, ions have specific charge which is to say that they are different number of protons and electrons. An atom with no charge (neutral) had the same number of protons as of electrons

Atoms are neutral , they contain protons as electrons. Ion are electrically charged particles made by removing a neutral atom to give it a positive ion.
