In this article, the author argues that the novel The Great Gatsby, is not about love, even though it does discuss the idea of love heavily. Instead, the novel is about fantasy. The love that is portrayed in the novel is only superficial. Gatsby loves Daisy only because of the perfect idea he has of her, which is not realistic. This is similar to the idea that Daisy has of Gatsby.
The illusion of love in the story is present alongside other fantasies, such as the importance of money and luxury, the endurance of aristocracy or the reality of the American dream.
