What is the difference between a Common noun and a proper noun

A common noun is any type of noun. Ex girl,but girl proper would be a name let's call the girl Elsa

A common noun is a regular noun (a person, place, or thing) whereas a proper noun is a SPECIFIC person, place or thing. For example:

the president is a common noun

Barack Obama is a propernoun
