The 1/4 cup of butter is represented by divided the whole in four parts and shade the one part only.

The 1/2 cup of butter is represented by divide the whole in two parts and shade one part only.

In option C, one figure represents that one part is shaded when whole is divided in two parts and other figure represents half of whole shaded, which is also equal to 1/2. So both figure represent the fraction 1/2.

Thus option C is incorrect for the given condition.

Answer: Option C
