We want x by itself. Lets bring all "x"s together on one side. Lets bring 12x to 4x. To do that, subtract 12x from both sides (do the opposite operation).
4x-12x=32
Collect like terms 4x and 12x which result in -8x
-8x=32
Now to get x by itself we need to get rid of -8 factor it out by dividing each side by -8 (again doing the opposite operation - since it's being multiplied, opposite is division)
So, x=32/-8
x=-4
Check:
Does 4(-4) equal to 12(-4)+32 ?
-16 equal to -48+32 ?
-16 equal to -16 ?
Yes. Answer x=-4 is correct.
