we have

5x^4-3x^3+4 : (x+1)

5x^3-8x^2+8x-8

-5x^4-5x^3

-----------------

-8x^3+4

8x^3+8x^2

-----------------

8x^2+4

-8x^2-8x

---------------

-8x+4

8x+8

---------

therefore

the remainder is 4
