The basin system of irrigation largely was abandoned by farmers near the Nile River in modern times because it only allows the planting of one main crop. Option A is correct.

On the ther hand, perennial system allowed the planting of multiple crops so many people in modern times started to switch to this system as it resulted more effective.

The reason why the basin system can only support one type of crops is that it relies on Nile river's annual flooding.
