we know that

the discriminant of the quadratic equation is equal to

D=b^2-4ac

In this problem we have

x^2+4x+5

so

a=1

b=4

c=5

substitute

\begin{gathered} D=4^2-4(1)(5) \\ D=16-20 \\ D=-4 \end{gathered}

answer is option C
