In the catabolism of fatty acids, they are oxidized via beta-oxidation, and then they enter the citric acid cycle to produce energy.

For each molecule of acetylcholine that enters the citric acid cycle, 10 ATP are produced, plus 4 ATP from the electron transport chain. As 2 ATP are spent for the acetylcholine to enter the mitochondria, the net production is 12 ATP.
