What was Thomas Paine's primary purpose in writing "The Crisis, No. 1"?

It was to re-inspire the continental army (Americans). "The Crisis, No. 1" was also used to inspire and give  positivity.

The American Crisis is a series by American activist and revolutionary. The papers were addressed to the colonist in order to make them support the American Revolutionary War. Employing his own personal liberal ideas, Thomas Paine uses persuading language.
