Your work must be neat and organized, and your work must support youranswer. Write the answer clearly following the work.1. Describe the similarities and differences among the following experiments.(a) Slips of paper are marked with the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 and placed into a box. After beingmixed, two slips are drawn simultaneously.(b) Slips of paper are marked with the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 and placed into a box. After beingmixed, one slip is drawn then put back into the box, then a second slip is drawn.(c) Slips of paper are marked with the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 and placed into a box. After beingmixed, one slip is drawn and not put back into the box, then a second slip is drawn.2. One urn contains four BLUE balls marked 1, 2, 3, and 4, and a second urn contains five GREEN balls marked 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5. One ball is selected from each urn(a) What is the sample space?(b) List the outcomes in the eventsE={the number on the BLUE ball is even or the sun of the two balls is 5}F={the number of the GREEN ball is even and the sum of the two is 5}c) Find the probability of E and the probability of F .

Solution

Similarities:

- The 3 experiments involve the withdrawal of 2 slips.

- The number of slips available for the experiments is 5.

Differences:

- The 3 experiments have different sample spaces. Experiment A has a sample space of 5 since just one trial is performed. Experiment B has a sample space of (5 x 5 = 25) because two trials are involved and the number of slips available to choose from is 5 in both trials. While Experiment C has a sample space of (5 x 4 = 20) because two trials are involved and the number of slips available to choose from is 5 in the first trial and 4 in the second trial.

- Experiment A is just one trial. Experiment B is 2 trials with replacement, while Experiment C is 2 trials without replacement.
