The composite figure is a cylinder and a cone. The volume of the figure is the sum of the volume of the cylinder and the cone. Thus, the formula is:

V=\pi r^2h+(\pi r^2h)/(3)

Given,

radius of cylinder and cone:

r = 2 (the diameter given is 4 and we know radius is half of diameter, thus, r = 4/2 = 2)

height of cylinder = 8

height of cone = 3

Substituting, we have:

\begin{gathered} V=\pi r^2h+(\pi r^2h)/(3) \\ V=\pi(2)^2(8)+(\pi(2)^2(3))/(3) \\ V=(3)(4)(8)+((3)(4)(3))/(3) \\ V=96+12 \\ V=108in^3 \end{gathered}

The volume is:

108 cubic inches
