In an experiment, the hypothesis is If the wavelength of the light shining on a plant is shortened, the rate of photosynthesis is slowed down. If this experiment is performed, the dependent variable?

The dependent variable is the part of the experiment that depends on the other part, the independent part. The dependent variable would be the plant because it's growth depends on the light wavelength.

The variables are the factors, which do not have a fixed value. Their value keeps changing in an experiment. It can be divided in two types: dependent variable and independent variable.

The dependent variable in the experiment is the variable, whose tendency to vary depend on other factors. To test this hypothesis, the rate of photosynthesis with respect to different wavelengths. So, the dependent variable is rate of photosynthesis, as it is dependent on the wavelength of the light.
