When oil spills continue then it will reach the ground and thus the oil will be absorbed by the soil also. This will lead to affect the productivity of soil and eventually it will lead to disturbance in the growth of plants also.

Whereas groundwater is the water present below the surface of earth inside the spaces present in soil pores. But the oil spill before reaching the groundwater will enter the soil and hinder its productivity.
