Reduction potential values for Mg2+ -----> Mg is -2.38
and Reduction potential values
for Cl ----> Cl- is 1.33 V
so Mg one forms anode and Cl forms cathode .
So,
oxidation occurs at Mg and reduction occurs at Cl.
