Why did Maryland settlers challenge Lord Baltimore in the 1630s and 1640s?

The settlers mostly challenged him because he was a monopolist who also dealt with nepotism. He gave functions and positions to his family and friends while keeping a tight grip on the market and the economy and grew his wealth.
