The easiest way to determine is to put a subject before each of the verbs. We know "He" is singular because it refers to one person. "They" is plural because it refers to more than one person. He breaks? yes - S. He freezes? yes - S. He are? No. They are? yes - P.
B. murderer.
In the story, the only hunters are hunting men. This is why it is called Ship-Trap Island because all of the people who land on the island are hunted and killed. A person who kills another person is a murderer. Therefore a hunter is a murderer in this story.
