Well, to find an average, you must add together all numbers, and divide by the quantity of numbers you have, so for example, in this problem.

You must add 2.5 + 4.6 + 6.75 + 4.8, which will bring you to a total of 18.65

So now that you have the total distance, (18.65), we must divide by 4, now, why 4? When finding an average, you must add together the numbers, and divide by however numbers you may have.

So, in that case, 18.65 divided by 4 is 4.6625, with the help of long division.
