C. Refutation predicts an opposing viewpoint.
E. Refutation discredits an opposing viewpoint.
A refutation is found in an argumentative or persuasive essay. The goal of a refutation is to acknowledge that people may have a different viewpoint than the essay is proving. Then the writer will squash the opposing viewpoint showing why it is not valid or not as strong as the essay's viewpoint. Sometimes the refutation can change a person's opposing viewpoint but it doesn't specifically change it in the essay.
