TRUE or FALSE. Compounds have all of the characteristics of the elements that form them.

The answer is FALSE. When elements form compounds, they frequently change chemically. A good example would be H20. H20 is composed of Hydrogen and Oxygen. Hydrogen is a highly flammable gas while Oxygen is required for fire's combustion. When H20 is formed, it douses the flames. This characteristic is completely different from when they were separate elements.
