Santa had no money left. Santa received two bills today. One bill was for $65, and the other bill was for $149. How much money does Santa have now?

To determine how much money Santa has we need to add the bills, this means that we need to do the addition:


65+149

To do this addition we write in the appropiate form, this is shown below:

Now that we have the addition written correctly we add 5 and 9, the result is 14. We write the 4 under them in the sum above and we need to carry the one.

After this we need to add 6 and 4 and the number we carried from the previous step, then we add 6, 4 and 1; the result is 11. We write the one below the 6 and the four in the addition and carry a one.

Finally we add what we carried with the one we have, the result is two and we write it below the one.

Hence the result is 214.
