2. Bill is building a rectangular deck that will be 8 feet wide and 15 feet long. Tyrone ishelping Bill with the deck. Tyrone has two boards, one that is 8 feet long and one theis 7 feet long. He puts the two boards together, end to end, and lays them on thediagonal of the deck area, where they just fit. What should he tell Bill?

First, we find the diagonal with Bill's measurements. To do that, we apply Pythagorean's Theorem to the below


h^2=8^2+15^2\rightarrow h=√(64+225)=√(289)=17

This means, if Bill want to do a rectangular deck with dimensions 15 by 8, he should have a diagonal of 17.

On the other hand, Tyrone noticed that a 15 feet diagonal is enough, which means Bill had wrong the dimensions of the rectangular deck he wants.

Therefore, Tyrone should tell Bill that he did a mistake with the measures.
