A 1913 California law forced Japanese Americans to sell their lands.
It was the California Alien Land Law of 1913 which prohibited "aliens ineligible for citizenship" from owning agricultural land or possessing long-term leases over it. As a result Japanese-Americans living in California had to sell the lands they owned. In sipite of the fact that the California Alien Land Law was primarily directed at Japanese, it also affected to Korean, Indian, and Chinese immigrantfarmers living in California
