I need help with this so I would the appreciate help also with this question to get me started:1. How can you use the diagram and the Pythagorean Theorem to find approximately how many yards Ben Waston ran to track down Champ Bailey?

Pythagorean Theorem

We know that Champ Bailey run 100 yards

The diagram is divided each 10 yards, Waston's position at the beggining was at 10 yards, he was 10 yards less than 100, that is 90:

We observe on the diagram that the side of the field has a length of 53 1/3, by observing the diagram we can calculate an approximation of the position of W:

Horizontally, the diagram is divided by thirds and Waston was at the first third, on the middle of it, so we can say he was 1/6 less than 53 approximately. Since 53/6 ≅ 8, since he is 1/6 less, then the lenght of the side is 53 - 8 = 45 yards:

Now we have the necessary information to find an approximation of the yards Ben Waston had to run:

We want to find the hypotenuse length, that's the distance Waston ran

We know, by the pithagorean theorem that:

side₁² + side₂² = hypotenuse²

Since side₁ = 90 yards and side₂ = 45 yards, replacing in the equation:

90² + 45² = hypotenuse²

8,100 + 2,025 = hypotenuse²

10,125 = hypotenuse²

√10,125 = hypotenuse

100.62 = hypotenuse

Then, Ben Waston had to run 100.62 yards
