The answer is D. Opium latex is extracted from the opium poppy plant and used make heroin by harnessing the analgesic alkaloid morphine component in the latex. This chemical compound can be used as an opioid in analgesics in medicine but can also be used in the illegal trading of heroin. Afghanistan is the biggest producer of illegal opium with approximately 206,000 hectares under the crop according to 2004 study and contributing 60% of the country's GDP.
