If the two cars get the same mile per gallon, the proportion "distance travelled / gallons used" has to be constant for any driver.

Then, we can write this proportion for the two drivers.

We get:


(286)/(13)=(m)/(11)

Then, we can solve for m as:


\begin{gathered} 286\cdot11=m\cdot13 \\ m=(3146)/(13) \\ m=242 \end{gathered}

Answer: Daniel's trip was m = 242 miles.
