Chemistry => Reaction => Kinetics

This reaction is clocked to show the role of reaction kinetics. The experiment consists of mixing two colorless solutions, when the reaction occurs the solution changes color to a dark blue, this is due to the formation of new compounds.

The reactants in this reaction are Potassium Iodate and Sodium Sulfite. Also, Starch is used as a color indicator.

For this reaction to happen, the solution must be in an acidic medium, therefore sulfuric acid is used as a catalyst.

Answer: Sulfuric Acid
