cos2a= cos^(2) a- sin^(2) a \\ but \ cos^(2) a + sin^(2) a=1 \\ i.e. \ cos^(2) a=1- sin^(2) a
Therefore,

cos2a=1- sin^(2) a- sin^(2) a \\ =1-2 sin^(2) a
