The predicate defines what the subject does. A predicate can be complete or simple. It is a complete predicateĀ if it includes the main verb or verbs used in the sentence plus the other words that adds more description to the subject. But if the predicate only contains the verb used in to describe the subject, then it is a simple predicate. So in the given sentence, the simple predicate is the word "finished".
