Machine guns were used usually by multiple troops. It could shoot multiple bullets out at one time for as long as you held the trigger. Back during World War 1 the machine guns would often overheat within 2 minutes of firing which is why there needs to be cool water handy at all times to cool the gun. Also a ammunition belt fed the gun bullets
