So I basically need an answer checked. the question was 'What does the discriminant tell you?" and my answer was "How many and what kind of solutions are possible, as well as howany x intercepts a parabola has" if it is incorrect, could you please explain the correct answer?

Answer:

The discriminant tells us whether there are two solutions, one solution or no solution. Also, tells us the number of x-intercepts.

Explanation:

The discriminant is the part of the quadratic formula underneath the square root symbols:

b^2-4ac

The discriminant tells us whether there are two solutions, one solution or no solution.

Since the solutions of a quadratic are the values of x when it equals 0, then the discriminant also tells us how many x-intercepts there are in the function.
