the top of mount everest is at about 8,850 m. What would the approximate air temperature be at that altitude?

At the summit, the temperature can be 100°F below zero. But on a good summit day, a climber can expect around -15°F

If we speak mathematically how the temperature decreases with the altitude than the temperature at Mount Everest should be -86.73 C degrees given that the temperature at zero altitude is 0 C degrees. This is a result of the estimated temperature decrease which comes to 9.8 C degrees drop on every 1,000 meters or 0.98 per every 100 meters eliviation. So 8,850 of altitude by 0.98 C degrees decrease on every 100 meters comes to -86.73 degrees, still keep in mind that this is only if the temperature at 0 altitude is 0 C degrees and that it is only a mathematical estimate under certain conditions, in practice it is much different.
