Steve has a propane tank that needs two coats of special rust prevention paint. He needs to cover the entire tank twice, including both ends. How many total square feet will he cover? Radius = 5.2 ft, length of tank = 16 ft. Use the r button on yourcalculator.

The propane tank has a cylindrical shape. The general formula for the total surface area of a cylinder is given by:

T.S.A=2πrh+2πr²

where, r = 5.2 ft.

h = 16 ft.

Hence:

\begin{gathered} T.S.A.=2*π*(5.2)*(16)+2*π*(5.2)^2 \\ T.S.A.=692.66ft^2 \end{gathered}

Steve needs to cover the entire tank twice, so:

2*692.66ft^2=1385.32ft^2

ANSWER

Steve will cover 1385ft²
