R would equal -4. Subtract 7 from each side & youll get -12=3r then divide each side by 3.

-5 = 7+3r
-5-3r = 7+3r-3r
-5-3r = 7
-5-3r+5 = 7+5
-3r = 12
-3r 12
▬ = ▬
-3 -3
r= -4
