Answer:

Homes of open prairies were called Sod house. They were built in the frontier colonies of Canada and the United States. They were used for animal shelters. Poverty among the settlers and lack of building materials such as wood were the two reasons for building the Sod houses. They were made of prairie grass which was abundant and free. Prairie grass had thicker and tougher root structure. A type of prairie grass found in Alaska is called Barabara. Stone and timber were also used if available.
