There are 24,000 lb because there are 2,000 lb in one ton so to fint how many lb are in 12 tons you multiply 12 by 2,000 and you get 24,000 lb

There are 2000 pounds in one ton, so to find the amount of pounds in a set amount of tons, all we need to do is multiply the amount of tons by the amount of pounds in one ton.
12 * 2000 = 24000
There are 24,000 lbs in 12 tons.
