Why is there a danger of explosions in places such as silos and coal mines where there are large quantities of powdered, combustible materials?

When we have powdered fuel we have fuel particles of a smaller size, this makes the surface area much larger, it is as if we had a greater amount of fuel concentration in the mine. In addition, being the particles smaller and having high temperatures, as mines and coal silos generally have, make the particles collide more frequently, increasing the possibility of an explosion.
