The correct answer is - conservative/liberal.

The Republican Party is referred to as a conservative part, while the Democratic Party is referred to as a liberal party. Of course, none of them are strictly acting in the way they are prefixed to, but instead remain around the ideological core of the party, but move in different ideological directions as the situation requires them to do in order to manage to get more support from the general public.

The best pair of adjectives that describes Republican Party and Democratic Party positions, respectively, would be "conservative/liberal," although of course there are different "shades" of each.
