8 divided by 3 is 2.67. that times 16 is 42.67 , so a little less than 43 oz will be needed.

First off start with a ratio by which the
recipe is smaller than the required amount.
Then multiply 16 ounces by that ratio and voila.
The answer is: she has to buy 43 ounces
