A biome can be defined as a large group of plants and animals with mostly similar characteristics living together in a specific climate. The flora and fauna in a particular biome most likely have similar characteristics because of their need to adapt to the biome's climate. There are many classifications of biomes, but the six major biomes include: desert, forest, grassland, tundra, freshwater, and marine biomes.
It must not be confused with an ecosystem, which takes into consideration the interaction of living and non-living organisms in an area.
