Given the function


5x^2-2x-3=0

We use the general formula for quadratic equations.

Where: a = 5, b = -2 and c = -3


x=\frac{-(-2)\pm\sqrt[]{(-2)^2-4(5)(-3)}}{2(5)}

And solve


\begin{gathered} x=\frac{2\pm\sqrt[]{4+60}}{10} \\ x=\frac{2\pm\sqrt[]{64}}{10} \\ x=(2\pm8)/(10) \end{gathered}

Separate the solutions


\begin{gathered} x=(2+8)/(10)=(10)/(10)=1 \\ and \\ x=(2-8)/(10)=(-6)/(10)=-(3)/(5) \end{gathered}

Answer: B. x = 1, -3/5
