To find out how many beads are purple, multiply the total beads by the fraction of the beads that are purple

so


18((3)/(6))=9\ beads

therefore

9 beads are purple

Another way to solve the problem is convert the fraction in percentage

we have


(3)/(6)=(1)/(2)=0.50*100=50\%

so

If the total are 18 beads

50% is 9 beads

therefore

9 beads are purple
