he was hunted by a grizzly this is how smith's friend James writes: "the grizzly did not hesitate ,spring on the captain breaking his ribs,and cutting his head." but he was back and pushes on

smith was smart , hunter ,survival ,frontier grit, rugged individualism.the trials he forges become settler path ,wagon train , roads.
