y = a[x] + b

a is the slope of the equation

b is the y - intercept

Since b is the y-intercept, as "b" increases, the graph of the equation shifts up. As "b" decreases, the graph of the equation shifts down

As the slope (a) of the equation is varied, the steepness of the line changes.
